About 2006 Census

Every five years Statistics New Zealand makes an official count of the population and dwellings in New Zealand. Statistics New Zealand conducted the 2006 Census of Population and Dwellings on Tuesday, 7 March 2006.


Iwi and Pacific profiles

Iwi profiles were completed for iwi who consented with a population of 1,000 and over. Pacific profiles provide detailed information for the seven largest Pacific ethnic groups in New Zealand. Both iwi and Pacific profiles are based on information from the 2006 census.

A selection of Statistics New Zealand and external reports which use information from the 2006 Census of Population and Dwellings. The Business Toolbox uses 2006 Census data to help businesses, non-government organisations and community groups to find out about the demographics of their area.

Additional information and research surrounding the 2006 Census including methodological papers targeted at our technical audience, samples of the English and Bi-lingual Individual and Dwelling Forms and Guide Notes, results from the 2006 Post-enumeration Survey (PES) - conducted to estimate the populations missed by the 2006 Census, and seminars held throughout New Zealand following the 2006 Census.
