Statistics New Zealand employs a team of around 7,000 regional staff to carry out the delivery and collection of census forms nationwide.
In 2006, for the purposes of the census collection, Statistics New Zealand divided the country into 22 areas. Up to 21 district supervisors worked in each area, and they each supervised a team of collectors who went from door to door delivering and collecting census forms.
While the collectors are the most visible part of the census workforce, there is a large support team that covers a wide range of roles, including IT professionals, statistical analysts, project managers, trainers, community liaison officers, logistics officers, and data processing and administrative staff.
