Graduate recruitment

Graduate careers

At Statistics New Zealand we employ people from a variety of backgrounds. Some people are experienced while others are starting out. Some people have stats and maths degrees while others have studied sociology, law, finance, history, information technology, psychology or marketing – the list could go on!

We need people from a variety of backgrounds because we produce a variety of information. Statistics NZ helps build a complete picture of New Zealand and its people. It helps to drive business growth, fuel industries, strengthen communities and power economies. Our information contributes to local and national decision making. It's not just about numbers; if you are interested in New Zealand and its people, Statistics NZ has opportunities that will interest you.

We provide structure and support for graduates who wish to start their careers with us. Statistics NZ is a large organisation, with opportunities to work in different subject areas, and learn a wide range of new skills.

Current graduate opportunities

We have a leadership development programme specifically for graduates who wish to develop leadership skills in a structured, supported environment. There are 12–15 positions available every year.

Applications for the 2009 intake open on 1 March 2008.

We also accept graduates into other positions. Applications for analyst, information technology developer, and mathematics and statistics roles are accepted throughout the year and appointments are made on an as needed basis.

Statistics NZ will be at the Career Fairs taking place at universities around New Zealand, so that you can find out more information about the graduate opportunities that we offer. Find out when the Careers Fair will be at your university.
