Official Statistics Forum 2010

Official Statistics Forum 2010 – Realising the value of official statistics

Every 4-5 years the users and producers of official statistics meet to share their knowledge and experience of the Official Statistics System (OSS) and the wealth of information it represents. The gathering is convened by the Government Statistician, in accordance with the Statistics Act 1975.

The Official Statistics Forum was held in Wellington across two days, 24–25 March 2010. The theme of the forum was realising the value of official statistics, both in the sense of the awareness of that value, and the fulfilment of the potential of that value.

Copies of presentations, and video recordings of the speakers, will be hosted on the Forum homepage on the Statisphere website.

The event was opened by Hon Maurice Williamson, Minister of Statistics, and featured speakers included:

Hon Bill English – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance
Gary Banks AO – Chair, Australian Productivity Commission

Dennis Trewin AO – former Australian Statistician
Hon David Caygill – Chair, Advisory Committee on Official Statistics
Prof. Sir Peter Gluckman – Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister
Len Cook – former NZ and UK Government Statistician
