Statistics NZ’s Benchmarking of Administrative and Support Services (BASS) results

Statistics NZ’s administration and support performance measures are released as part of the Benchmarking Administration and Support Services (BASS) programme.

The BASS report provides information on the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of administration and support services in the state sector. It covers Human Resources (HR), Finance, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Procurement, and Corporate and Executive Services (eg legal services, communications, and information management). The BASS report is part of the response to government demands for better, smarter public services for less.

Developed by Treasury, BASS is a useful tool for Statistics NZ to see how it measures up against other similar government organisations. Statistics NZ is benchmarked against a number of other 'medium' agencies over measures, including costs, costs per FTE, and percentages of trained staff.

To read the BASS results download the Excel files from 'Available files'. If you have problems viewing the files see Opening files and PDFs.
