Preface
This report provides a statistical picture of the screen industry in New Zealand for the 2006 financial year. It is based on information collected by Statistics New Zealand in the Screen Industry Survey 2005/06, conducted in August 2006. It is the second year that the annual survey has been conducted by Statistics New Zealand. This year’s report also incorporates data from the 2004/05 survey in order to measure changes in the screen industry. |

The Screen Industry Survey produces data to help measure the size and nature of the screen industry in New Zealand. The process of making and distributing movies and television programmes involves a wide range of businesses and individuals. The Screen Industry Survey reflects this, by including representatives from movie distributors, cinema operators and television broadcasters, as well as the companies and individual contractors involved with the actual production of films and television programmes.
Initial results from the survey were released in June 2007. This report completes analysis on the differences between the 2004/05 and 2005/06 data. In addition to the new time series data started in the 2005 report, longitudinal analysis has been carried out looking at businesses revenue in the 2005 financial year compared with the 2006 financial year.
Statistics New Zealand is grateful for the cooperation of the businesses and individuals who participated in the Screen Industry Survey.
