Number of Businesses in New Zealand Up 4 Percent
Highlights
At February 2006, the total number of non-farming businesses was 346,090,
up 3.5 percent compared with February 2005.
More than three-quarters of businesses were located in the North Island,
with 35 percent in the Auckland region.
More than one-third of all enterprises were engaged in property and business services,
with 124,110 enterprises and approximately 221,600 employees.
The manufacturing sector continues to be the largest employer,
with approximately 263,700 employees in February 2006.
