For the year ended March 2011:
- National saving was $1.2 billion (compared with $2.0 billion in the March 2010 year).
- Central government sector saving was negative $2.4 billion or negative 7.4 percent of net disposable income (compared with negative $1.6 billion in the March 2010 year or negative 4.9 percent of net disposable income).
- Household sector saving was $0.2 billion or 0.2 percent of household net disposable income (compared with negative $1.6 billion in the March 2010 year or negative 1.5 percent of household net disposable income).
- The initial impact of the 2010/2011 Christchurch earthquakes was reflected in large capital transfers to the household sector for rebuilding.
