Business Price Index Redevelopment Project

Introduction

The business price indexes (BPIs) are a suite of indexes which are intended to measure price changes in the production sector of the economy. The BPIs are the Producers Price Index (PPI), the Farm Expense Price Index (FEPI) and the Capital Goods Price Index (CGPI).

The PPI is a series of quarterly economic indicators designed to measure price changes in the production sector of the economy and developed primarily to aid the internal production of the national accounts. The PPI has two types of indexes. The outputs indexes which measure changes in prices received by producers, and the inputs indexes measure price changes in the costs of production faced by producers (excluding labour and capital costs).
