Productivity Statistics: Sources and methods (Revised March 2011)

Executive summary

First published in March 2006 and revised annually, the March 2011 version of Productivity Statistics: Sources and Methods incorporates the property services industry into the ‘measured sector’. This paper outlines the data sources, definitions, and methodologies used to compile the annual labour, capital, and multifactor productivity (MFP) indexes. The indexes cover a subset of the economy referred to as the 'measured sector'. Productivity is a measure of how efficiently inputs (labour and capital, for example) are being used in the economy to produce outputs. The latest indexes are available on Statistics New Zealand’s website, www.stats.govt.nz
