Productivity Statistics: 1978-2008

Highlights

Average annual labour productivity grew 1.3 percent over the 2000–08 period, compared with annual growth of 2.0 percent from 1978–2008.		Average annual multifactor productivity grew 0.6 percent over the 2000–08 period, compared with growth of 1.1 percent from 1978-2008.
Average annual capital productivity fell 0.4 percent over the 2000–08 period, compared with an annual fall of 0.5 percent from 1978–2008.		New in this release is a composition-adjusted productivity series, which accounts for differences in the skill composition of workers. From 1998–2008 composition-adjusted labour productivity averaged 1.2 percent growth annually.
