Environment domain plan

As part of its leadership role in strengthening the Official Statistics System, Statistics New Zealand is developing domain plans as a key part of working together with other agencies to improve official statistics.

Statistics New Zealand, the Ministry for the Environment, and the Department of Conservation are working together on a domain plan for the environment that seeks to address gaps, overlaps, and deficiencies in environmental data. The creation of this domain plan requires the cooperation of a large and diverse group of stakeholder agencies – close to 30 agencies are involved.

So far, a series of ‘key topics’ and research questions have been developed and a stocktake of information sources that inform the key topics has been carried out. Following gap analysis, a prioritised list of initiatives will be identified to address the information gaps, overlaps, and deficiencies identified.
