In the year ended June 2010 compared with the year ended June 2009:
- Local authorities' operating income (funding earned for core services) was up 7.5 percent.
- Rates were up 6.2 percent.
- Operating expenditure (spending on core services) was up 5.6 percent.
- Local authorities reduced their operating deficit from $0.4 billion to $0.3 billion.
- Local authorities recorded a surplus on all transactions (including valuation changes) of $2.1 billion. This is a decrease of $0.5 billion.
- Local authorities had assets worth $102.9 billion at 30 June 2010, up 4.2 percent.
- Local authorities' net equity position (difference between assets and liabilities) was $93.3 billion, up 2.3 percent.
