Statistics New Zealand and the government agencies that collect injury data have developed a template for documenting injury data collections (the process and activity of collecting data) and the resulting datasets. This work is part of the Official Injury Information Plan for 2009.
The template presents a ‘standard’, with the aim that all injury data produced in New Zealand is documented to a consistent level of completeness and specificity so that the data can be easily understood and used. It was created by taking key fields in existing injury sector documentation and fields not currently documented, and matching these with an international standard for data documentation. It allows for ease of comparison with other documentation, and for easy online publication.
