Rise in housing approvals

Highlights

In July 2011:

  • The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings authorised, excluding apartments, rose 6.3 percent, following a fall of 4.3 percent in June.
  • The trend for the number of new dwellings authorised, excluding apartments, shows a rise for the five months since the February 2011 turning point.
  • The number of authorised new dwellings, including apartments, was 1,203.
  • Earthquake-related consents identified in Canterbury totalled $32 million, including 36 new dwellings.

For July 2011 compared with July 2010:

  • Residential values fell $70 million (14 percent).
  • Non-residential values rose $50 million (17 percent), led by a $105 million consent for work on Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.
