Retail sales unchanged in August

Highlights

For August 2010 compared with July 2010 (on a seasonally adjusted basis): 

  • Total retail sales were unchanged, down less than 0.1 percent ($2 million).
  • Core retail sales decreased 0.6 percent ($25 million). 
  • Increases in motor vehicle retailing, up 2.3 percent ($14 million) and automotive fuel retailing, up 2.1 percent ($11 million) were offset by decreases in 15 of the 20 core retail industries. 
  • Only two of the 20 core industries moved up or down by more than $5 million.
