Retail Trade Survey: March 2011 quarter

Highlights

For the March 2011 quarter compared with the December 2010 quarter (seasonally adjusted):

  • Increases were recorded in all regions, except in Canterbury, down 2.2 percent ($47 million).
  • Total retail sales value rose 2.0 percent ($324 million).
  • Total retail sales volume rose 0.9 percent.
  • Motor vehicles and parts retailing had the largest value rise (up 5.9 percent or $110 million), and the largest volume rise (up 6.3 percent).
  • Fuel retailing had the second-largest value rise (up 5.6 percent or $99 million), and the largest volume drop (down 3.9 percent).
