Agricultural Production Statistics: June 2011 (provisional)

• The number of dairy cattle was 6.2 million, 4 percent higher than 2010.
• The number of sheep was 31.1 million, down 1.4 million from 2010.

The planted area of wine grapes increased 3 percent between 2009 and 2011, down from a 13 percent increase between 2007 and 2009.

During the year ended 31 March 2011:

• The area of new forestry planting was 7,100 hectares, up from 2,900 hectares in 2010.
