Business and employment
New Zealand Business Demography Statistics
provides an annual snapshot of the structure and characteristics of New Zealand businesses. These statistics contain the number of businesses and employees.
Annual Enterprise Survey
provides annual financial performance and financial position information for the industry. The supplementary industry tables have detailed agriculture industry data, but only at a national level.
The
Linked Employer-Employee Data
survey provides statistics on filled jobs by sex, age, and sector. Worker turnover and earnings by industry is also included in these quarterly releases. Tables with agriculture data can be found in

. The
Seasonal Employment Patterns in the Horticulture Industry (PDF. 39 pages, 275kb)
report covers employment within the horticulture sector.
The
Business Operations Survey
looks at innovation within the agriculture industry.
Imports and exports
Overseas merchandise trade
statistics contain the value of merchandise exports, including agricultural. horticultural, and timber exports.
Overseas trade indexes
has merchandise export price indexes for fruit, meat, and dairy products. Some import price index figures are also available from this survey.
Global New Zealand
contains statistics on New Zealand's principal export markets and largest export earners that are relevant to agriculture.
Population distribution and characteristics
Estimates and projections
provides information on the size and composition of rural populations.
Census
contains regional information on population size and composition. It also includes the number of farmers by industry.
Contribution of agriculture to the economy
Primary industries, such as agriculture and forestry, contribute to GDP. Agriculture's industry output is included in
National Accounts
. Tables specifically relating to agriculture can be found under

The
Balance of Payments and International Investment Position
survey contains agricultural export figures, which are found in the annual releases under

Agricultural commodity prices
Producers Price Index
contains output and input prices for agriculture (meat, dairy cattle, livestock, cropping farming, and fertiliser) and forestry. The
Farm Expenses Price Index (FEPI)
measures changes in input costs for New Zealand agriculture. This is included in the Producers Price Index March quarter releases each year.
Consumers price index (inflation)
records changes in the prices of consumer items brought by New Zealand households, and includes a separate report (
Red, ripe, and really versatile
) tracking tomato prices.
Environment and energy
The
Environment domain plan
provides an overview of environmental statistics and establishes the future direction for these statistics. This domain plan contains a stocktake of data that is currently available.
The
Measuring New Zealand's Progress Using a Sustainable Development Approach (2008)
report contains agricultural land use statistics and covers area of land used for farming, soil health, nitrogen, and phosphorus in soil, contaminated soil sites, and hill country erosion.
Energy Use Survey - Primary Industries 2008
contains information on energy use within the primary industries.
Water
(linking to Water Physical Stock Account releases) provides information on the amount of water used for livestock drinking-water and dairy shed requirements.
Agricultural research
Sometimes bioscience activities occur in agriculture feedstock and chemicals and horticulture. Statistics relating to these aspects of agriculture can be found in the
Bioscience Survey
.
Information and communication technology
Household use of Information and Communication Technology
contains information on domestic regional and rural access to the internet, while
Information and Communication Technology in New Zealand: 2006
contains business-related ICT statistics as well as ICT security measures in the agriculture industry.
