In the December 2007 year:
- The total volume of alcoholic beverage
available for consumption rose 1.4 percent to reach a new high. - An increase in spirit-based drinks
accounted for the rise in the total volume of spirits. - The volume of pure alcohol available per
head of population aged 15 years and over, decreased for the first time since 2003.

- Beer as a proportion of the total beverage
available for consumption fell to 66.4 percent. - Wine available for consumption recorded its
first fall since 2001 and contributed nearly one-fifth to the total beverage available. - The volume of tobacco available for
consumption increased to reach a new high since the time series began in 1973.
