The Government Use of ICT Survey was designed to build an informed picture of ICT use in the public sector of New Zealand. The survey provided reliable information about ICT use in government, the uptake of emerging technology, and factors that hamper ICT use in the government sector. It also showed how new technologies change the way that government organisations carry out their roles.

The Government Use of ICT Survey was run for the 2006 year and then was discontinued due to changes in statistical priorities. The State Services Commission runs a Government Use of ICT Survey that replaces the Statistics NZ survey.

The collection of this data along with the Business use of ICT and Household use of ICT surveys creates a comprehensive set of internationally comparable statistics.
