Information releases

• National ethnic population projections - information releases
  These releases provide a summary of the projected Māori, Pacific, Asian, and European ethnic populations of New Zealand, based on different combinations of fertility, mortality, migration, and inter-ethnic mobility assumptions.
• International travel and migration – information releases
  These releases provide statistics on the number of overseas visitors, New Zealand resident travellers, and permanent and long-term migrants entering or leaving New Zealand. 
• New Zealand General Social Survey
  The New Zealand General Social Survey (NZGSS) provides information on the well-being of New Zealanders aged 15 years and over.  It covers a wide range of social and economic outcomes, and shows how these outcomes are distributed across different groups within the New Zealand population, including ethnic groups.

• Population estimates at 30 June 1996, 2001, and 2006 
  NZ.Stat tables include the estimated national ethnic population by age and sex at 30 June, and the estimated subnational population for regional council and territorial authority areas by age and sex at 30 June.
• National ethnic population projections

  These subnational projections provide the projected Māori, Pacific, Asian, and European ethnic populations of regional council and territorial authority areas by age and sex, based on different combinations of fertility, mortality, migration, and inter-ethnic mobility assumptions.
• Asian ethnic groups profiles, 2006 – tables
  This set of 48 tables provides Asian ethnic group profiles based on results from the 2006 Census, with information on demographics, religion, language, education, labour force participation, occupation, study, tenure of housing, household composition, and cigarette smoking.
• QuickStats about culture and identity
  These statistics look at New Zealand's increasingly diverse population using data from the 2006 Census. Some comparisons with earlier censuses are provided.
• 2001 Census: Asian people (2001) - reference report
  This report includes a set of 43 tables on demographic, social, and economic subjects for the Asian ethnic groups, using data from the 2001 Census.
• 2001 Census: People born overseas
  This report includes a set of 28 tables on demographic, social, and economic subjects by birthplace for New Zealand's overseas-born population, using data from the 2001 Census.
• International travel and migration
  International travel and migration statistics record arrivals to and departures from New Zealand by overseas visitors, New Zealand resident travellers, and permanent and long-term migrants.

Reports and articles

• Working together: Racial discrimination in New Zealand
  This short report looks at whether New Zealanders feel racially discriminated against. It also provides background data on overall levels of perceived discrimination and where this takes place.
• Asian mobility in New Zealand
  This report provides information about internal migration of New Zealand’s Asian population, based on movements between 2001 and 2006.
• Concerning language (2004)
  This report investigates language retention for selected ethnic groups in New Zealand, using data from the 2001 Census.
• 2001 Census: Asian people (2001) - reference report
  This volume contains a wide variety of demographic, social and economic tables from the 2001 Census for the Asian ethnic group. Data is mainly presented at a national level.
• 2001 Census: People born overseas
  This report provides a variety of demographic, social, and economic data from the 2001 Census on New Zealand's overseas-born population.
• Ethnic intermarriage in New Zealand
  This working paper provides some practical examples of the presentation of multiple response data. Part 2 looks at ethnic intermarriage in New Zealand using data from the 2001 Census.
• People born overseas - article 
  This article summarises information from the publication of the same name in the New Zealand Now series. It provides information on New Zealand’s overseas-born population from the 1996 Census.

  This article examines permanent and long-term (PLT) migration and short-term travel to and from India (February 2011).
