Key facts

In April 2012 compared with April 2011:

  • Visitor arrivals (195,700) were down 2,100. The biggest changes were in arrivals from:
    • China (up 7,900) 
    • Japan (up 1,900)
    • the United Kingdom (down 5,900)
    • Australia (down 6,800).
  • Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (183,200) were up 700. The biggest changes were in departures to:
    • the United States (up 2,500)
    • Australia (up 2,200)
    • Japan (up 1,400).

In April 2012:

  • Seasonally adjusted figures showed a net loss of 800 migrants.
