Fewer travellers in January
Highlights
Visitor arrivals (244,000) were down 4 percent from January 2008 (253,500).
There were fewer visitors from the United States (down 5,100), Korea (down 4,500), and the United Kingdom (down 4,400), but more from China (up 3,400).
New Zealand-resident departures (105,100) were down 5 percent from January 2008 (111,200).
New Zealand residents departed on fewer trips to Fiji (down 1,700), but there were more trips to Australia (up 3,200).
Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 700 on a seasonally adjusted basis
