Highlights

  • Visitor arrivals (226,500) were down 10 percent from March 2008 (250,800).

 

  • There were fewer visitors from the United Kingdom (down 9,400), the United States (down 5,100), Australia (down 4,300), Japan (down 1,400) and Korea (down 1,300).

 

  • New Zealand-resident departures (126,700) were down 6 percent from March 2008 (134,800).

 

  • New Zealand residents departed on fewer trips to Fiji (down 2,000) and Australia (down 1,700).

 

  • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 1,700 on a seasonally adjusted basis
