Deaths to increasingly outnumber births
Highlights
Under all projection series:
Population growth is projected to slow in all 16 regions between 2006 and 2031.
All regions, cities and districts will be home to more people aged 65 years and over in 2031.
Under the medium series:
Deaths will outnumber births in one-third of territorial authority areas by 2031.
Almost half of New Zealand's 73 territorial authority areas will have fewer residents in 2031 than in 2006.
Sixty-two percent of New Zealand's population growth between 2006 and 2031 will be in Auckland region.
