Introduction
A key factor affecting the number, source and characteristics of overseas visitors to New Zealand is our geographic location, with long distance travel necessary from most countries. New Zealand's neighbour Australia is in a similar position, and the International Visitor Survey shows that a quarter of visitors to New Zealand (excluding those from Australia) also visit Australia on the same trip. Given this, how do visitor arrivals into New Zealand compare with those into Australia?
