Index of key New Zealand statistics

Business activity statistics provide information on industries that process, manufacture, or deliver services. This includes data about New Zealand's accommodation, construction, retail and wholesale trade, manufacturing, forestry, and agricultural sectors.

Listed below are the titles of tables found previously in chapter 8 of the Key Statistics publication. Below the list is an outline of where you can find this data now. Further help is available from our Information Centre.

Table 1 Establishments, capacity, guest nights, occupancy rate, and average stay, by accommodation type

You can find this information in Infoshare. Choose the Subject category: Tourism, then choose Accommodation Survey ACS, and the table Actual by Accommodation by Type by Variable (Monthly).

Select the following variables:

  • 'Select all' in Accommodation Survey Actual by Accommodation Type 2009
  • 'Select all' in Observations
  • And the time periods you want.

Table 2 Building consents summary

For this table, see the Building Consents Issued information release page. Go to the most recent release and see table 1 in the Excel file.

Table 3 Building consents issued, new buildings by regional council area

You can find this information in Infoshare. Choose the Subject category: Industry sectors, then choose BLD – Building Consents, and the table Number, value and floor area by building type, nature and region (Monthly).

Hold down the control key and select these variables:

For this table, see the Economic Survey of Manufacturing information release page. Go to the most recent release and see table 1 in the Excel file.

Table 10 Timber and forestry products

This information is provided by the Ministry for Primary Industries. On their website the data is split across four Excel sheets. It can be accessed from the Forestry Production and Trade Publications webpage; under the time period you require, select 'Download accompanying tables as an Excel file'. 

  • Sheet 1 shows quarterly 'Sawn timber production'
  • Sheet 2 shows quarterly and annual 'Production of pulp'
  • Sheet 3 shows quarterly 'Production of paper and paperboard' 
  • Sheet 4 shows 'Production of panel products' – including fibreboard, particleboard, and plywood.

Table 11 Poultry production

You can find this information in Infoshare. Choose the Subject category: Industry sectors, then choose Primary production – PRP.

For annual poultry production data see the table Processed Food – Poultry – Dressed Weight (Annual).

Hold down the control key and select these variables:

  • 'Meat Chicken – Fresh', 'Meat Chicken – Frozen', and 'Meat Chicken – Total' in Poultry, Fresh and Frozen – Dressed Weight
