Population statistics provide information about New Zealand's population. This includes data about births, deaths, migration, ethnic populations, and age.
Listed below are the titles of tables found previously in chapter 2 of the Key Statistics publication. Below the list is an outline of where you can find this data now. Further help is available from our Information Centre.
Table 1 Total and Māori populations
You can find this information in Demographic Trends, in the Excel file see table 1.02. Demographic Trends is Statistics New Zealand’s main reference volume on population and related statistics. It is released annually, and provides commentaries and tables on major demographic indicators of the New Zealand population.

Table 2 Estimated resident population of New Zealand
You can find this information in Infoshare. Choose the Subject category: Population.
For annual estimated resident population estimates data, choose Demography Population Estimates – DPE and see table Estimated Resident Population by Sex (1991+) (Annual).
Select these variables:

- And the time periods you want.

For annual age distribution of the estimated resident population, chose Demography Age Estimates – (DAE) and see table Estimated Resident Population by Age and Sex (1991+) (Annual-Dec).
