Price statistics show information about inflation and the cost of goods and services. These statisitcs include the prices for: food, farm expenses, overseas trade, labour, production, and changes in the cost of goods and services.
Listed below are the titles of tables found previously in chapter 6 of the Key Statistics publication. Below the list is an outline of where you can find this data now. Further help is available from our Information Centre.
Please note: Althoughprice information in Key Statistics included percentage movement data these are not provided in Infoshare. You can calculate the percentage movement in indexes using the following formula:

This table is split across many releases from Statistics New Zealand.
- For consumers price index data, go to the Consumers Price Index infomation release page. Choose the most recent release and in the Excel file see table 2.01 for group and subgroup indexes, and tables 2.02 and 2.03 for percentage changes.
- For labour cost index data, go to the Labour Cost Index (Salary and Wage Rates) information release page. Choose the most recent release and in the Excel file see table 1.
- For producers price index data, go to the Producers Price Index information release page. Choose the most recent release and in the Excel file see table 2 for inputs, and table 4 for percentage changes.
- For related export and import price index data, go to the Overseas Trade Indexes information release page. Choose the most recent 'prices' release, and in the Excel file see table 2 for export data, and table 3 for import data.
Table 2 Consumers price index, groups and subgroups – index numbers
You can find this information in Infoshare. Choose the Subject category: Economic Indicators, then choose Consumers Price Index.
The data is split into groups and subgroups. An example of a group is 'Health group', while the subgroups are: 'Medical products, appliances, and equipment', 'out-patient services', and 'hospital services'.
For group-level data see the table CPI Level 1 Groups for New Zealand (Qrtly-Mar/Jun/Sep/Dec).
Select these variables:
