Trust and participation in government

Why is this important for social statistics?

We measure trust and participation in government as a way of checking if people feel they have civil and political rights. These include rights to:

  • participate in decision-making by voting
  • be fairly represented in government
  • seek redress for discrimination
  • conduct business with public officials in an open and transparent manner, without fear of involvement in corrupt practices.
