2001 Census of Population and Dwellings – information releases

Every five years there is an official count of the population and dwellings in New Zealand, providing us with a snapshot of how many people live in New Zealand and the number of dwellings, or houses, there are in the country, as well as providing us with a range of other useful information.

These information releases contain tables on:

  • census night population and number of occupied dwellings by regions and territorial authorities
  • electoral populations for General and Māori electoral districts.
