The strategy for the 2011 Census of Population and Dwellings is for minimal change to survey content and the questionnaires.

Statistics NZ is undertaking a number of reviews in 2008 that will help determine the content of the 2011 Census.

Overview of census-related consultation

Revision of the Official Ethnicity Statistical Standard

Statistics NZ is reviewing the collection of statistics on cultural identity across the Official Statistics System. As part of this review, a revision of the ethnicity statistical standard will also be undertaken, with a view to implementing any changes that might be required for the 2011 Census.

Consultation on proposed changes to census content for 2011

Public consultation on these changes has now closed. Thank you to all those who made submissions.

Final decisions on census content will be made by the Government Statistician and will be available from this page from late 2008.

Statistics NZ undertakes a systematic and comprehensive process to update standards and classifications. This process is ongoing and in 2008 will cover several classifications used by census and other Statistics NZ surveys.
