was commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) to undertake a new survey on how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) obtain finance.
The survey's core objective was to provide information on the capital structure of businesses in New Zealand, the sources of finance they use and their recent financing experiences. Businesses with between 1 and 500 employees in a wide selection of industries were surveyed.
Results from the survey show the demand for financing by New Zealand businesses and the extent to which that demand is being met. It also examines financial and non-financial factors that may influence a businesses ability to get finance.
