Population projections

Population projections are an indication of the size and composition of the population at a future date.

Projections are available for the total New Zealand population, local and regional populations, various ethnic populations, families and households, and the labour force.

A number of alternative series are produced in each set of projections. These use different combinations of appropriate assumptions about future fertility, mortality, migration, inter-ethnic mobility, living arrangement type and labour force participation patterns of the population.
