The annual Agricultural Production Survey collects information about commercial agricultural production from farming animals, growing crops, horticulture and forestry.
Details available include regional totals of different types of animals farmed, numbers of farm animals born during the year, how agricultural land is used, and amount and type of crop and forestry production.
The agricultural statistics programme was reinstated in 2001 and a 2002 census of animal, crop, horticultural farms and forestry was the programme's first step. Earlier agricultural production statistics are available, but not directly comparable to the current programme's.
