The information and communication technology (ICT) industry includes production and sales of ICT goods and services. This includes the communications industry and the information technology (IT) industry.
The Information and Communication Technology Supply Survey has collected this data since 2005. Statistics on these industries were collected between 1993 and 2004 by the now discontinued annual Information Technology Survey between 1993 and 2004.
Information is published on total ICT sales, domestic and export ICT sales, totals of specific ICT goods and services commodities, industry performance, and barriers to industry growth.
Due to repriortisation of some parts of Statistics New Zealand's ouputs programme, the following changes are being made:
1. The Iinformation and Communication Technology Supply Survey will be produced two-yearly, with the change being implemented after the 2008/2009 survey.
2. The Internet Service Provider Survey will move from being produced six-monthly to annually. The annual release date has not yet been decided and will be timed to align with OECD reporting timeframes. The next survey will be in 2009 and the date will be posted to the release calendar when it is known.
3. The Household Use of ICT survey will be produced three-yearly rather than two-yearly with the next survey expected to be published in late 2010.
4. Statistics New Zealand will no longer produce the ICT Government Use Survey. The State Services Commission will instead collect Government ICT statistics, including some of the same information as was in the Statistics New Zealand survey.
