Research and development

Research and development (R&D) is defined as “creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge. Any activity classified as R&D is characterised by originality. Investigation is a primary objective.”

Research and development is an important factor in promoting economic growth, and developing a more dynamic New Zealand economy capable of competing successfully on the international stage.
