Unemployment

Statistics about unemployment include information about the number of people unemployed and their:

  • age
  • sex
  • ethnicity
  • location (regional council area)
  • length of time unemployed
  • income.

A time series showing numbers employed and unemployed is available, as well as the unemployment rate for the last 15 years (back to 1986 on request). 

Statistics about underemployment (measuring numbers of part-time workers who would prefer to work more hours) are available.

Information about the jobless (working age people without jobs who want jobs) is also available.
