For the year ended 30 June 1999 Statistics New Zealand estimates that the total expenditure of international students studying in New Zealand was $394,584,000. The Census of English Language Providers contributed $57,391,980 to this figure.
Ninety English Language Providers were surveyed within the Census, and a response rate of 96% was achieved.
Adjustments have been made to the Census results to allow for: non-response; the accommodation expenditure of students where this has not been arranged by the English Language Provider; and for Other Expenditure of international students studying in New Zealand which was not covered by the Census. Combined, these imputations bring the total estimate of the expenditure of international students studying in New Zealand English Language schools to $97,501,943 for the year ended 30 June 1999.
This data has been incorporated into New Zealand's quarterly Balance of Payments statistics.
