Highlights
New dwellings up
The estimated number of new dwelling units authorised in May 2000 was 2,055. This is the second month this year that the number has reached above 2,000. A number of areas recorded higher totals than in recent months, including Waitakere, Christchurch, Tauranga and Rodney.
Declining trend continues
The underlying trend for the number of new dwellings authorised has been declining for 10 months. This follows a period of growth that lasted 11 months.
Final release
This issue of Estimate of New Dwelling Units is the final publication of these statistics. Timeliness improvements in the monthly Building Consents Issued release have removed the need for a separate early estimate of dwelling consents.
