What's New?


  • Census at Schools

What are Kiwi kids’ favourite subjects? How much do their laden schoolbags weigh? And which super-powers, such as invisibility and telepathy, would they choose if they could?

Census at Schools is being run again. It is a nationwide online survey for Year 5 - 13 students which provides real, relevant data and classroom activities to enhance statistical enquiry across the curriculum.

To be involved go to the Census at Schools website. Open till April 9th. 



  • SURF for Schools: Census

The SURF for Schools: Census webpages have now gone live!

 

SURF for Schools – Statistics levels 4–8

SURF for Schools is a synthetic unit-record dataset based on the Statistics New Zealand Income Survey. Activities and suggested answers have been developed from this dataset and are available now – SURF.

  • PANZ Schools Essay Competition on Population Issues

This competition is open to secondary school students who study geography, mathematics/statistics or social studies at year 11 and above. To participate in the competition, a student must write an essay, not exceeding 2,000 words, on a population issue (national or local) of their choice. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded with prize money of $400, $300, and $200, respectively, as well as two merit awards of $100 each.  The deadline for the submission of essays is 31 May, 2009.  The essays should be forwarded to: Secretary, Population Association of New Zealand, PO Box 225, Wellington. Using Schools Corner


Viewing Schools Corner on screen

Schools Corner is best viewed on a screen size of 800 x 600 pixels or bigger, using a modern browser (Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, Netscape 6.0 or higher). Schools Corner will still work with older browsers – it just won't look as great. Schools Corner was designed with fonts set to medium in the browser, but you can change the font size to your preference using your browser's menus.
