Agricultural statistics in the media – Activity

The February 2007 edition of StatZing! has a media release about the number of sheep and cattle in New Zealand, and asks you to think about these numbers.

Here is another activity about the information. It comes from a longer information release, the Hot Off The Press called Agricultural Production Statistics Provisional: June 2006.

  1. Read the ‘Highlights’ and the ‘Commentary’ pages of this information release.
  2. Select a category from the commentary that interests you.
  3. Re-write the information in your own words for someone who is three years younger than you.
  4. Create a graph or a table from the information provided in the section that you choose.
  5. Include three sentences about your category, based on research you have done. A great resource for this is the New Zealand Official Yearbook.
  6. Present your work in an interesting and informative way.
