In the 2001 Census Statistics New Zealand asked for the first time about household access to the Internet. Here is the question from the 2001 Census dwelling form.

The 2001 Census found that almost 4 in 10 households have access to the Internet.


Activity

Answer these questions about internet access:
  1. Why do you think the new question about Internet access was included in the 2001 Census?
  2. Ask the students in your class who has access to the Internet at home?
  3. Have a look at the graph below. Which regions had the highest access to the Internet in 2001? Which regions had the lowest access to the Internet?
  4. What percentage of households had access to the Internet in your region?
  5. Compare the information you have collected about your class to the information on the graph.
