Background

On Tuesday 6 March 2001, every person in New Zealand was asked to fill out a census form as part of the 2001 Census of Population and Dwellings. To find out more about the 2001 Census, have a look at the page called Census information on Schools Corner.

The treasure hunt activity aims to have students navigate the census information to find out about the people who live in their area. Students complete a series of questions by reading tables and graphs.

For students keen to find information about the school's area, they can go into Statistics by area and click on Online Maps. Zoom in on the map to find the school's area.
