Background

Statistics New Zealand has a wealth of information on its website about your local community. Table Builder is a tool that allows you find information from the 2001 Census of population and dwellings about your local area.

The activity gets students using Table Builder to find out where people in their local area were born and what languages they speak.

The activity builds on the activity in the November issue of StatZing! that uses data from the 2001 Census, the Time Use Survey and the CensusAtSchool NZ project.

Students may find it easier to print off the activity page or else open up another window so they can toggle between the instructions and the table.

If you want to explore what other data is available from the 2001 Census then use Table Finder.
