Activities

This issue of StatZing! has some activities based on the balance of payments. The three accounts, current, capital and financial, are explained, and students have to complete the table and answer some questions on what makes up the different accounts and what may affect the balance of payments.

Activities

The activities in this issue have been prepared to encourage students to apply skills and ideas when examining population patterns and processes. They will need to draw on their own knowledge of why people are moving in New Zealand, suggesting reasons for these movements.
Curriculum

Geography, New Zealand Population: Why do people move from place to place? Social Studies, Place and Environment: Why people move between places and the consequences of this for the people and the places.

based on the changing trends in farming and horticulture. The activities use data from the 2002 Agricultural Census.

based on the final counts from the 2001 Census of Population and Dwellings and the reference report, "Tourism and Migration (2000)." Students look at how many visitors were counted on census night and look at where the visitors have come from.

based on gathering, collating, interpreting and presenting data based on a question from the 2001 Census of Population and Dwellings questionnaire and then looking at where the population is located using data from the 1996 Census.
