
Highlights
- The Food Price Index recorded a 0.2 percent decrease in August 2005 compared with July 2005.
- Fruit and vegetables decreased 2.7 percent, influenced mainly by lower prices for avocados and broccoli.
- Meat, fish and poultry increased 0.1 percent.
- Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food increased 0.2 percent.
- Grocery food, soft drinks and confectionery increased 0.1 percent.
- The Food Price Index increased 2.0 percent from August 2004 to August 2005.
- Statistics New Zealand is currently reviewing Consumers Price Index (CPI) regional collection, compilation and publication practices and is inviting submissions. See the commentary of this release for more details.
