In May 2005:
- 1977 consents were issued for new dwelling units.
- 111 consents for apartment units accounted for 6 percent of new dwelling units.
- The total value of consents issued for residential buildings was $536 million.
- The total value of consents issued for non-residential buildings was $337 million.

- Residential consents contributed 61 percent of the total value of all buildings, compared with 71 percent in May 2004.
- The trend for the value of non-residential buildings has increased 67 percent since January 2003.
