- Consents for 2,237 new dwelling units were issued in February 2006. This figure was boosted by consents for apartments.
- For the last three months apartment units have averaged 22 percent of new dwelling units issued, compared with a monthly average of 15 percent for the year ended February 2006.
- Consents were issued for 523 new apartment units in February 2006, compared with 328 in January 2006 and 615 in December 2005.

- The trend for the number of new dwelling units, excluding apartments, has been relatively flat in recent months, following a decline from the high levels of 2003 and 2004.
- The value of consents issued for residential buildings was $561 million in February 2006, $15 million (2.7 percent) higher than in February 2005.
- The value of consents issued for non-residential buildings was $290 million in February 2006, $26 million (8.0 percent) lower than in February 2005.
